Pine Trace Natural Area

The Pine Trace Site, located off of Miles Jamison Road in Summerville, was purchased by Dorchester County in 2011 with partial assistance from the 2010 Parks and Conservation Bond Funding.  The property is truly an urban oasis boasting over 300 acres of undisturbed, mature hardwood forest.  Its location adjacent to the planned Eagle/Chandler Multiuse Trail is critical as it will provide bicycle and pedestrian connectivity to a large portion of Dorchester County’s Summerville and North Charleston population centers.

Pine Trace Natural area will be unique in that there are no other similar public facilities of this size and nature in eastern Dorchester County.  It will provide critical green space and an instant “great outdoors” experience in the heart of a rapidly growing region.  The highly passive natural area will be minimally developed, featuring a dog park, disc golf course, fishing pond, extensive internal trail system, outdoor classroom, and picnic shelters.  With a successful partnership with Dorchester School District Two, this facility could prove to be an innovative asset for experiential education for our local students!
