Ashley River Park
In 2012, Dorchester County used a portion of the voter approved 2010 Parks and Conservation Bond proceeds to purchase 85 acres of property on a pristine section of the Ashley Scenic River adjacent to Bacon’s Bridge Rd. Boasting nearly a mile of river frontage, the site holds exceptional opportunity to become the premier hub for outdoor recreation and adventure, environmental education, and ecotourism pursuits in the river corridor. Additionally, the park will be utilized to meet our county’s ever expanding need for event rental spaces, festival venues, and community celebrations.
Recently, the Ashley River Park Master Plan was solidified with with unanimous approval from County Council. Primary park features include an extensive trail system, fishing pond, rental spaces, playground, dog park, ropes course, climbing wall, canoe and kayak rentals, event meadow and river access. Work is currently underway to develop design and construction documents as well as to move the project through the permitting process. If these efforts continue smoothly a Fall of 2017 groundbreaking is possible. Learn more about the Ashley River Park Master Plan by clicking on the image below.
